Hey,

My Name is Fatima Kabba, and I’ll be telling you some facts that I learned about COVID-19.

Where did the virus come from?

The origin of the virus is an outbreak of a respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus. The first case was in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China. It has now been widespread in 37 locations internationally.

How did it get started?

One theory is that it came from different species of animal: camels, cattle, cats, and bats, though seldom does the animal coronavirus infect and spread between people. MERS-COV, SARS-COV, and SARS-COV 2 all have their origins in bats. One possibility is linked to a large seafood and live animal market in Wuhan. This suggests an animal-to-person spread, which makes people very suspicious about the seafood market.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms are fever, dry cough, shortness of breath–a person that shows these symptoms must be quarantined. The symptoms can begin to show from two to fourteen days after exposure. It’s also possible to be asymptomatic.

How to prevent and treat the illness?

There is no vaccine to prevent coronavirus.

Here is a short list of ways to prevent or reduce transmission:

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  2. Try not to touch your eyes, nose & mouth.
  3. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects.

Use the preventions suggested, and I hope you learned some new facts about COVID-19. Make sure to take care of yourself!
