The Garden Reach n’ Teach in the Beach program aims to build youth leadership and provide positive opportunities for youth to engage with their community.  Participate in building your community while gaining valuable job skills and getting paid.

Job Description

Work with Seattle Tilth Garden Educator as a teaching assistant in garden classes for elementary school students at the Rainier Beach Learning Garden.

Learn about organic gardening and composting, and help maintain the garden and beautify the community.

Help develop youth garden programs in the Rainier Beach community.

Available approximately 5 hrs/week, March – May.   Work hours are flexible, to be determined with interns.  A $450 stipend is available.

Qualifications

This program is for youth 14-18 years old who live or go to school in the Rainier Beach neighborhood.  Applicants should:

  • Have an interest in working with elementary school students (you do not need to have prior experience).
  • Have an interest in gardening (you do not need to have prior experience).
  • Have a positive attitude, a reliable work ethic, good communication skills, and a willingness to learn.
  • Be able to work with kids at South Shore School and the Rainier Beach Community Center
