Changing the Odds

Since 1971, the Friends of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the UW Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D) have hosted Celebration, a banquet and scholarship fundraiser honoring the academic excellence of EOP students and champions of diversity.
EOP Celebration has enjoyed long-standing community and corporate support. Over 500 community and business patrons attend the event each year.
The Charles E. Odegaard Award
Established in 1973, the Odegaard Award is presented at Celebration and honors individuals whose leadership in the community exemplifies the former UW president’s work on behalf of diversity. Assunta Ng, ’72, ’76, ’79, founder and publisher of the Seattle Chinese Post and Northwest Asian Weekly, is the 2011 recipient.
