Never again…

Dear Movement Supporters,

Help us ensure every child has a great teacher Nevada students will never be denied the best teachers based on harmful, outdated layoff policies. Never again.

Thanks to new legislation that was passed through bipartisan efforts in the House and Senate and was just signed into law by Governor Brian Sandoval, when layoffs are necessary Nevada’s teachers will be laid off based on their performance, not the number of years they’ve been in the classroom.

In recent weeks we have fought and won similar victories in Tennessee, Indiana, and Florida. We are working right now on legislation in Ohio, Michigan, California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and we won’t stop until every state puts students first.

Can you make a donation to StudentsFirst now to keep the momentum going across the country?

StudentsFirst members in Nevada took action by sending emails to their elected officials, spreading the word to their friends, and even testifying in front of their state legislature to ensure the best teachers are in the classroom with their kids.

The work of our members in Nevada has been so encouraging and has not gone unappreciated. Governor Sandoval writes, “Michelle Rhee and StudentsFirst were critical partners in helping to get this legislation to the table. These reforms will help provide a better classroom learning experience for our children.”

Many of you have asked what’s next for Christine Simo, the Nevada teacher we told you about who was recently pink-slipped under the former Nevada law. Christine has been offered a job at a private school next year, but in terms of the legislation she is so appreciative: “I’m just thrilled. Never again will an outstanding teacher be fired because of a crazy policy. This is an exciting day for Nevada.”

Help us keep up the momentum and make sure students in every classroom in America are being taught by the most effective teachers by making a donation to StudentsFirst now:

An effective teacher can have a life-changing impact on a child. For the sake of America’s kids, we must do everything we can to keep excellent teachers at the head of the class.

Thanks for all your hard work!
