NOTES FROM FEBRUARY 3, 2011 MEETING
RAINIER BEACH LIBRARY 6:00PM TO 7:30PM…
Next Meeting~Feb. 10th 2011 at the Rainier Beach High School
Determine two (2) things we all plan to achieve at tonight’s meeting
1. Collaborating and sharing ideas on ways to organize solutions and alternatives for the youth in the Rainier Ave. and Henderson St. location while the two year remodel project of RBCC is taking place.
2. If programs and activities are currently being done how can we as a concerned communities make those program more assessable and perhaps better. If it is currently not being done lets offer these programs and alternatives to the youth affected by the closure.
DADS alternatives:
1. Partner with Young Life organization and reestablish a strong and cohesive partnership.
2. Offer Summer programs
a. Offer transportation such as METRO for late night programs
b. Use Community Center vans to help transport the youth after the programs and activities. Often times the trouble is occurring after the program is over and for the safety of the youth perhaps transportation would be beneficial
c. Offer Charter buses ( seek them as partners)
CHAMPS and DANIAL TEMPLE CHURCH (currently working on a memorandum for Kick in it Friday):
1. Offer Dance
2. Offer Reading
3. Offer IT (Build a computer lab)
4. Offer Music
5. Offer Mentoring (Shea Organization
CHAMPS need s help for mentors, with activities, computer lab, and homeless feeding program, marketing & PR.
RAINIER BEACH LATE NIGHT (The program has 60 boys and 15 girls):
1. Currently Friday and Saturday night from 7:00pm to 12:00am at Rainier Beach High
2. Offering mentoring programs

IDENTIFYING PROGRAMS THAT DO NOT CURRENTLY EXIST IN THE AREA:
1. Girls need programs that address their needs and based around self esteem
2. Greens and sustainability programs
3. Cooking and healthy eating classes
4. Offer more programs for youth between 12 to 18 years or middle to high school
5. Educate the youth on the laws the surround 3 or more youth at the bus stop at one time.
6. Teach them how they activities may be perceived to others as harmful or a danger to others and how can the make it a positive instead of a negative.
7. Have events that will address the issue of PRECEPT ION and how to learn and grow from it
The current steering committee will commit to future meetings and organizing information gathered for solutions and alternatives for the closure of RBCC. The committee consists of the following members:

NW Hip-Hop Leadership Conference3
Hip Hop: Tool, Toy or weapon!
This year our theme is Hip-Hop: Tool, Toy or Weapon? What are the Hip-Hop possibilities, realities and results associated with hip-hop in the 21st century? The NW Leadership Conference serves as a yearly opportunity to examine and explore issues related to hip-hop like sustainability, accountability, global citizenship, leadership, ownership, privilege, diversity, social justice, race/racism, sexual orientation, gender relations, and getting paid in a multicultural 21st century America. This conference fits in perfectly with many of the issues that interest and challenge us every day. We are looking for workshop sessions that stretch participants’ thinking every day, all day all year long. The workshop sessions will be challenging, though-provoking and provide participants with practical skills and tools to listen, process and take action.
Date: Saturday, March 19, 2011
Time: 12:00 – 7:00PM *featuring steppers, breakers and hip-hop performers (5-7p) competing for cash and prizes!
Location: Washington Hall (tentative)
