Just another tidbit of information. As you may remember from the Community Conversation on school discipline on July 30th at the Rainier Vista Boys and Girls club- Superintendent Banda mentioned that Seattle Public Schools has organized an Equity and Race Advisory Committee. This is the committee that is in charge of implementing SPS race and equity policies throughout the district particularly focusing on the areas of 1.) human resources, 2.) curriculum, and 3.) policy. The committee is supposed to be made up of parents/community members/teachers/etc. that are representative the diverse makeup of SPS.
In order to join the committee, you must apply–DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 13th. Are you concerned about racial equity; educational equity and access in Seattle Public Schools? Please apply and join this committee to influence, monitor, and shape the policy work the SPS around race and equity.
