Our interest as stewards of Rainier Beach community priorities, includes advancing the vision of a food-related innovation district through the Wells Fargo Planning Grant. We strongly support the effort to link the Othello and Rainier Beach neighborhoods at their respective light rail stations using MLK Jr Way as the main thoroughfare. Building off the neighborhood plans already completed and adopted for Othello and Rainier Beach, this planning grant will help to highlight the importance of cohesion between the two light rail stations, moving forward, through the Southeast Economic Opportunity Center at Othello and the Food Innovation District at Rainier Beach. The resulting neighborhood plan would unite Othello and Rainier Beach transit stations and ensure community priorities and strategies are heard and implemented.

We hope this exciting project is moves you to help us reach the Rainier Beach neighborhood through volunteering to door knock and collect surveys!

HomeSight, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County, and RBAC are conducting a community survey to evaluate resident experience in the Othello and Rainier Beach communities. The survey will cover quality of life questions such as perceptions of public safety and availability of community services and opportunities. These questions will help HomeSight and its partner agencies understand, and better address, community development needs in southeast Seattle and similar communities.

How It Will Work: In teams of two, volunteers will administer surveys door-to-door to a predetermined list of addresses in the Othello and Rainier Beach neighborhoods. You will turn in your surveys at the end of your shift.

What You Need: You will be outside and on your feet for most of the three hour shift. Please plan accordingly and wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

What You Will Be Provided: Snacks, water, a volunteer ID badge, and an onsite point of contact to answer any questions or concerns.  You will receive just-in-time training when you arrive for your shift, including a map and a list of addresses.

Location: Ethiopian Community Center at 8323 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118
