The RadioActive Fall 2013 Afterschool Workshop
In this fun, rigorous and hands-on workshop, youth ages 16-18 learn about journalism, audio recording, audio editing, interviewing, writing for broadcast, and speaking on the air. By the end of the program, each of the six participants will create a finished audio story about people in their community that will be published on KUOW.org! Best of all, RadioActive participants have the chance to amplify their voices by telling true stories about their communities, and the topics that are important to them. This workshop is a partnership between KUOW 94.9FM and Neighborhood House – High Point Center in West Seattle.

RadioActive’s 2013 Fall Workshop starts on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 and ends on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Workshop meetings are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30pm at Neighborhood House, 6400 Sylvan Way SW, Seattle 98126. We also meet Saturday, Oct. 5th from 11am-4pm, Friday, Oct. 11th from 10am-2pm, and Sunday, Dec. 8th from 11am-4pm. The workshop is free – all youth who complete the program will earn $50.

You can find more information and applications at kuow.org/radioactive. Admission to this workshop is selective – youth apply by pitching a story and go through an interview process before being accepted. Please pass this opportunity on to youth you know who are excited to tell stories and have their voices heard! Applications are due by midnight on Monday, September 16.

About RadioActive
RadioActive Youth Media is a program of KUOW 94.9FM / Puget Sound Public Radio, Seattle’s NPR news station. RadioActive creates a space where youth delight in discovering public radio journalism, and supports young people’s growth as media makers by sharing access to public radio’s knowledge, skills, and institutions. We offer seasonal beginning radio storytelling workshops and ongoing opportunities for graduates of those workshops.

RadioActive can also schedule workshops tailored to YOUR school or organization’s needs. We can present engaging lessons on storytelling, interviewing, audio editing or other radio skills. Let me know if you’re interested in scheduling a workshop – for an hour, a week, or anywhere in between – for your class or group!

Please feel free to contact lila@kuow.org with any questions about our 2013 Fall Workshop or about RadioActive in general. We look forward to helping the young people you work with produce incredible radio!
