Recreating Henderson

Recreating Henderson Street is a street design effort by the Rainier Beach community that will create a vision and improvement plan for S. Henderson St. Below we are going to take you on a journey of how Rainier Beach residents envision the Henderson corridor! In our work, we are led by our neighbors and neighborhood friends. We work togehter to build Rainier Beach as a Place for Eveyrone. We recreate Henderson together! Check out residents version of Henderson Street, here!

Priority Hire

A photo capturing folks in the Priority Hire program!

Priority Hire empowers Rainier Beach residents by connecting them to life-changing careers in the construction industry. This program provides access to well-paying jobs, focusing on women, BIPOC communities, and people re-entering the workforce. Through targeted outreach, training, and apprenticeships, we’re building brighter futures and strengthening the local economy. It’s about creating opportunities where they’re needed most and making a lasting impact in our neighborhood.

Throughout this piece, we have Eddie, our Priority Hire Outreach! We want to take folks through what Prioirty Hire is, it’s impact, and where Prioirty Hire will go next for Rainier Beach. Keep scrolling to check out our photojournalism piece on Eddie and Priority Hire!

Priority Hire

In his hometown, Marquis, 42, is an apprentice electrician working on the new Rainier Beach High School.

“Priority Hire has created numerous opportunities, including providing grants to individuals to generate additional prospects for those in distressed neighborhoods. I am particularly focused on promoting construction training and skilled trades. I take pride in my work and find it fulfilling to be able to assist and support numerous adults, young men, young women, people of color, and individuals from the Rainier Beach area.”

In the next five years, I aim to continue improving myself and becoming significantly better in all aspects. My goal is to involve more people in training programs related to my work so that they can take part in outreach activities like mine. I also want to provide training to empower others to lead outreach initiatives and prioritize hiring individuals who have completed the training.

Eddie, our Priority Hire Community Promoter Specialist, works to provide access and opportunities for Rainier Beach!
