The Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Coalition recently received this notification of nomination:
Congratulations! We are pleased to announce that your organization has been nominated for the 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Award sponsored by the Seattle Center and the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative. In the spirit of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., nominees were evaluated based on their contributions to youth violence prevention, peace, leadership, justice, civil rights, community activism and overcoming hardship. By reaching out to youth and youth-serving organizations in these specific areas, we hope to encourage the empowerment of young people for the 21st Century.
The official award ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 15, 2010, on the Seattle Center House stage. At that time the winners will be announced, and Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative Director Mariko Lockhart and Mayor Mike McGinn will present each with $100.00 and their award. All nominees will receive a certificate honoring their work and commitment to keeping the Dream alive.
Please join us to celebrate the work of the many organizations across the city that are contributing to the cause of peace as envisioned by Dr. King.
