On Tuesday 9/21/2023 The Elizabeth Town Homes development hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Grand opening of 119 units of affordable housing in the Rainier Beach neighborhood! The project was a collaboration between Equity Alliance of Washington – FAME and Catholic Housing Services under the leadership of a long-time RB Economic Development Round Table (RBEDR) member, Ms. Evelyn Thomas Allen, President and Executive Director of Catholic Housing Services.

During the event, Ms. Evelyn pointed out to RBAC staff, the goal of the facility was to serve families in the Rainier Beach community. Therefore the units feature larger spaces, are wheel chair accessible, and have safe places for children and residents to play and live. Median rents are very affordable and can be found here https://ccsww.org/elizabeth-thomas-homes/. The gated urban community is one block from the Rainier Beach light rail station; and in close proximity to grocery, schools and community centers.

The new facility features a community room, an outside play court, and a commercial space which will welcome Fathers and Sons Together (FAST) non-profit organization. The celebration featured the music of jazz musician Michael Powers, and featured catering, marketing and outreach by area BIPOC owned small businesses.

The building was developed in honor of the long-time community educator and community influencer Elizabeth Thomas, celebrating her life of inspiration to area families. Many of her family members were present at the event to celebrate her amazing legacy and the grand opening.
