Throughout this year, RBAC has managed the Recreating Henderson Street project. You can read more about the project here. Since January, we have heard fantastic feedback about the ideas, improvements, hopes, and dreams that the Rainier Beach Community has for Henderson Street. Some ideas we have listened to are more trees, more retail spaces such as coffee shops, food trucks, art, farmers markets, improved lighting, outdoor movie nights, mobile services (salon, healthcare, dental, etc..), and much more. We want to thank our partners, committee members, and the Rainier Beach community for giving feedback on what they imagine a redesigned Henderson Street could look like.
Now, it’s time for these ideas to come to life. At our final celebration, we will simulate what a vibrant Henderson could look like. We will have recreational activities throughout the Henderson Corridor, entertainment, a marketplace with food vendors, and so much more. Environmental Works will unveil its final street concept design plan. We will have several locations on Henderson Street where you can stop by and see the vision. For example, we will have gardening activities along Cheif Sealth Trail, and the Rainier Beach Community Center Plaza will be activated with small businesses and entertainers.
Don’t miss out! Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23rd, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and join us for the Walk the Block Party. This exciting event will celebrate the unveiling of the Henderson Street redesign, kick off Turkey Bowl Week, promote family fitness, host a Youth Day of Service, and feature the 1st Annual Tree Lighting in the Rainier Beach Neighborhood! Your presence will help us make this community dream a reality!
