One of the newest projects that excite us in Rainier Beach is the Rainier Beach High School (RBHS) Rebuild. “The Beach” will undergo a full reconstruction of the pre-existing building offering our neighborhood students and others an innovative incubator for educational success. RBHS will be replaced with a new multi-story educational facility of approximately 233,700 square feet. It will provide permanent space for 1,600 students in grades 9-12. The project will go into four different phases of construction and remodeling and students will remain on-campus in the midst of construction on the opposite side of the pre-existing building.

Seattle Public Schools, Rainier Beach High School and The Vida Agency are all working together to strengthen the awareness of the vital pipeline of construction jobs available for Rainier Beach residents. The Vida Agency (a BIPOC-led org) is working with various partners to offer an entry-level trade skills apprenticeship/internship program for RBHS students and community members that have ties to the school and/or the neighborhood.  They are also hosting along with the contractor Lydig sessions where people have a chance to learn about construction contract opportunities. As the project is approaching, we are seeking community input to “build the beach for us and by us” in a collaborative effort that involves the community, school, and developers.  You can bet that RBAC is monitoring this along with the Rainier Beach Economic Development Roundtable. The building has stood in its current state since 1961.   It’s about time ain’t it. For more information, feel free to visit: https://www.buildthebeachforusbyus.com/.
